As preparations were underway for the first mission trip to visit the Wayuu tribes in La Guajira, Colombia, God spoke audibly to our founder, Maria Davis, to take with her children’s flip flops. What started as an act of obedience to the voice of God -and with 43 pairs of flip flops in a luggage, has now become the Flip Flops & Soles program, an important symbol of our Jesus In YUU Project.
Through this initiative we have been able to provide more than 1,200 new flip flops for the Wayuu indigenous children of La Guajira, Colombia, and set an example for many other organizations and individuals to do the same. Thousands of Wayuu children need shoes to withstand the rough and rocky terrains full of debris and the hot soil mixed with coal dust. It is very common to find deep infected wounds and cuts on their feet, and most go untreated resulting in foot deformations and, in the worse cases, even sepsis.
One pair of flip flops can impact greatly the life of a Wayuu child, and the best reward is that unforgettable smile in their faces. We are leaving footprints in La Guajira… are you ready to leave yours?
We are always collecting flip flops! Our mission travel months to La Guajira are April, June, and November.
“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”— James 2:15-17
